How can we de-stigmatise and neutralise perceptions on sugar dating?
Using the to experience to educate and walk in the shoes of a sugar baby- enabling the audience to empathise instead of criticise.
The first outcome, the projection room is encompassed by the glamorous dressing room much like how some media portrays sugaring. The person walking through the exhibition can get both sides of the industry and not just the glamorised version .
The second outcome proposal is a literal lollipop which would be distributed at the exhibition as a take-away to reflect present. The wrap of the lollipop embodies a QR code which when scanned on a digital device, leads to diary extracts / messages sugar babies have to say to the outside opinions/ viewers.
Through intense secondary and primary research, we became aware of the strong glamorisation vs. conservative opinions on this topic. This lifestyle generates unrealistic expectations, which might have a negative impact on younger students interested in this career choice, but also general impressionable people. Our aim was to depict the realistic view of sugaring. In a wider context, we explored the juxtaposition of perception and representation.
